During casual rounds, I tend to use old scuffed balls I found around golf courses. During competition rounds then I switch to better quality balls. I also have the view to use cheap distance balls on long holes and use the better quality soft cover balls on Par 3s because my belief is that I will have a lower chance in losing a good ball this way.
Have I a paranoid fear of losing good balls? Or should I stick to a certain type of ball instead of mixing around? Maybe if I chuck all my scuffed distance balls away, my hcp might improve???

Hi Siupo,
I think it is common amongst golfers to try not to lose there good condition golf balls. However rules of golf state that you must use the same make and compression golf ball within your rounds of golf. You will also see the benifit if you used the good condition ones. Tour players tend to change there balls every 4-5 holes.

I am still using lake balls. Sometimes there are more expensive ones which I tend to play with most of the time. As I get better I will definately buy a branded set to try.

I use medium to high priced balls, Srixon TriSpeed. I bought a dozen, that was in April and I still have four left. If you take the plunge I find it well worth it. It just makes me feel better and therefore play better, knowing that I am using better quality balls I used to use lake balls, but then felt like a hacker rather than a golfer
So I would recommend getting yourself some decent balls and play with them. If a dozen balls last you three months, which surely they will, then it's not too expensive
