Does anybody else have problems reconciling your attitude to golf (social) and a very competitive other half. If so how do you resolve the problem?

Hi Carol,
I have a problem like you. I myself am very competitive and play with my other half. However she is a better player than me . If I do have a good shot I tend to make the most of it in the bragging stakes. She just quietly gets on with it. I tend to blame testosterone.

Hi Carol this one I do deal with a lot in my capacity as a Golf Mind Coach - it's difficult to put my views on this one in a couple of sentences but part of what I coach is about learning to handle what you can control and to let go of what you cannot. This is true of any irritating playing partner - not that I am suggesting your spouse is irritating We all play golf according to our values or 'personal rules' and what is important to you will not be as important to someone else. I work with people on the one thing they can control - their own rules and their reactions. It is important to play so you enjoy your game and to not allow others to affect your moods. I will put a more extensive article about this on the articles section next week if you would like to read more about some of the tools you can use to help you do this.

Thank you Mark and Gail for you input. Mark's other half must be a nicer person than me, as I just have to let my other half know, how he is making me feel. Also the coaching and pressure to do well isn't helpful.
I will be interested in your article and think we would both benefit by reading it.
Thought golf would be a pastime that we could enjoy together and have golfing holidays all over the world. I will go on holiday with him just not a golfing holiday.
