Been playing 18 holes for 5 years and pitch n putting for a couple before that. Don't belong to any golf clubs. Currently play off 28 and usually achieve stableford score of high 20s. Last month I was on fire+lucky playing at Redbourne and managed 94 strokes, 40 stableford. Alas thereafter back playing my usual strokes of high 100s with last weekend scoring 115 
Have a problem with sometimes slicing - tried strengthening my grip so 3 or 4 knuckles show and this sometimes cause a deadly shank!

I have been the same but lately I've improved consistency by focusing on the ball ie don't take eyes off ball whilst swinging back very slowly.
