I'll soon play some seaside links and wonder if anyone could provide some quick tips? I would assume I would have to punch a lot of the shots as the wind factor should be high?

Hi Siupo

I would be delighted to give you some tips on playing the links courses. Whenever i see amateur golfers play links golfers i always see them being to aggressive in the way off trying to hit the ball harder in the windy conditions and going straight for tricky pin positions. when i play in competition i try and play links courses as simple as possible. Play conservativly, avoid all bunkers and resist all temptation for going for tricky pin positions and play for the centre of the green.

As from a shot making point of view playing low shots is essential on links courses. So how do we play them? Well first of all to try and create a lower golf shot we need to create a steeper angle of attack coming into the ball, this effectively takes the loft off the clubface at impact. Another tip with the punch shot is to hit the ball softer, this will take ball spin off the ball which will keep the ball lower. Remember the harder we hit the ball the higher it will go so its very important that we keep the swing speed down.

Good luck. Have a little practice before you go!!!

Let me know how you get on!

Michael
